Quarantine Life

I know, it’s been a loooong time since I have contributed my own blog. I wish I could blame it on COVID-19, but I can’t. In fact, it is COVID-19 that is pulling me back into my blog.

What have I been up to?

I am still doing all the things.

I am still in my volunteer position as Board President of Charting Careers, an amazing nonprofit working to break the cycle of poverty and inequity through mentoring, education and family partnership.

I have been doing a lot with my DAR chapter and was recently named the next Chapter Regent, which is a huge deal for me and something I have been working toward for a very long time. I am excited about the opportunity! I am definitely in the right space to take on this role!

COVID-19 and a PAO

BLUF: The job needs to get done and my job is more important now than ever.

At first, I was still going into the office, but for the past few weeks I have been working from home. Fortunately, my job as chief of community relations is pretty easy to do from home with a phone, computer and internet. Side note: Due to being home everyday, after four years of living here I FINALLY set up my home office!

Aside from keeping in touch with local officials, and since all my events have been canceled, I have been working on making myself useful. So, what does that even look like? My least favorite part is transcribing our live streamed town halls into FAQs. But on the bright side I have also been able to do some pretty fun things too like writing more articles for the post newspaper and taking over recording and editing duties for the podcast. It’s actually been really cool working on my skills and developing myself into a diversified teammate.

My job has been pretty exciting through all of this. Knowing that the working I am taking part in is important is pretty rewarding.

COVID-19s Silver Lining

Yes, COVID-19 is scary, dangerous and deadly. That is not lost on me. My family is staying home and I am the only one really leaving the house because of work. I am also the designated person to go out for groceries and other necessities, aside from when I sliced my hand on shattered class and the hubby had to go get his first aid kit off the boat but I digress.

There are, undoubtedly, some things I am very grateful for in this whole mess of things. Mostly, my college bound daughter is home with us. She might be going crazy, but I am loving it!
