Give Big Data A Chance

Big data.  I admit, when this topic came up in class, all I could think was… BORING! I mean no disrespect, but this is just a topic that really doesn’t interest me.  Unfortunately, I am not the Professor, so I had no choice but to suffer through the week long lessons.

It turns out, big data is actually kinda interesting.   There is so much information, or data, that we put out in the world everyday.  So what does it all mean?  Why does anyone care about my data?  The more I think about it, the more fascinating it actually seems to be.

Let’s look small businesses.  How does big data affect decisions at a particular business?  For one, businesses need to track their product.  They need to keep data on what comes in and what goes out.  They need to track what sells and what doesn’t.  They need to track the value of the product and possible fluctuating prices.  It’s essential for any business to keep track of this information in order to make any kind of profit.

Big data is more or less a tracking system on a massive scale.  Small business us it to make big decisions, corporations use it the same way one a much bigger scale. I think it’s much more important for small businesses because it can help them calculate risks, which can be detrimental.

So I have to admit, big data is still a lot to take in, but, I do find it interesting.  I am going to give big data a chance.  I hope you will too.
